FASHION INDUSTRY
Designing for a purpose and creating a fashionable statement piece that raises awareness about the injecting/spiking problem and represents the idea of making women feel safe in places, especially the club scene at night, as this is being taken away from us. There is increased fear due to these occurrences and women might feel the need to protect themselves by covering up to feel comfortable and safe. Wanting to empower the wearer to feel in control and give women the option to cover up or expose themselves to feel protected but not restricted.
Clothing styles go through cycles and as women are feeling less safe, we’re going through a time like those restricted eras where we must think about what to wear when we leave the house, which is what my design encompasses and takes inspiration from. Cross referencing with the liberating era of the 1920s mixed with modern day silhouettes and techniques.
